Most image galleries on this site are presented in car number order (car 1 first etc.).

If you are looking for a specific car type, driver or co-driver then it's easier to use the Search function rather than trawl through pages and pages of (our rather wonderful!) images. The main things to remember are that if you click here you will be searching the whole site whereas if you are already in an event and you click search it will only search on that event. For example if you are viewing the Rally GB gallery and you search for Michael Schumacher it's unlikely to produce a correct result. Also it's not possible to search by car number so always start with driver surname for best results.

The Search function can be very powerful when used to it's full potential, please read below for more details.

General search
The General Search tool is an intelligent search box, which can search many different parts of the image database using one search box. For best results, use quite broad terms. If you want to refine your search, keep specifying more keywords and click 'Search Again'. The system is NOT case-sensitive, plurals are automatically checked, and the results are returned to you in order of relevance.

You can add the following logic to your search to refine the results:

• +: The word must appear in the results
• -: The word must not appear in the results
• (): Used to group words into sub-expressions (for use with other logic symbols)
• *: A wildcard used to match zero or more characters at the end of a word
• ": The enclosed string is taken as a whole, used for phrase matching

For example, to search for York, you may wish to exclude many results referring to New York, USA. In this case, use "-New +York". Similarly, to search for colour or coloured, you can use "colour*".

• Caption - the metadata description embedded in the image
• Keywords - the metadata keywords embedded in the image
• Picture Reference - the picture reference number
• Picture Filename - the picture filename
• Object Name - the metadata object name embedded in the image
• Picture Storage Date - the picture storage date

These modify the search in the logical way. The last box contains the text you wish to search, or the date if you are searching by storage date. If you click 'Add another condition...', a new row will appear which allows you to add more search conditions.
